REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 6-year-old boy in Redford Township.

Chase Young, 6, was riding his bicycle at 8:45 p.m. Aug. 10 in the area of Brady Road and Vassar Drive when he was struck by a blue 2023 Chevrolet Impala, according to authorities.
Officials said Young was dragged for a distance after being hit.
The Impala was abandoned at the scene, and neighbors told police that two men had run away from the car after the crash. Authorities said neither of them stopped to check on the injured child.
Young was flown to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He died a week later due to complications from injuries he sustained in the crash.
Charges
Korey Colt Thompson was arrested in connection with the crash after charges were approved by Wayne County prosecutors. He was arraigned Jan. 31 in 17th District Court, according to a Monday (Feb. 13) release from the Redford Township Police Department.
Thompson is facing one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death and one count of habitual offender -- fourth offense notice.

Remembering Chase Young
Family members and friends held a vigil Aug. 17 to remember Young, and hundreds of people attended. They spoke a few words, prayed, and released balloons into the sky in his honor.
“He brightened everybody’s day,” his aunt, Alexis, said. “He was a busy kid. Funny, always had people laughing. Full of life.”
