EAST LANSING, Mich. – Police have identified two of the students who were killed Monday night in a mass shooting at Michigan State University.

A 43-year-old man opened fire after 8 p.m. Monday (Feb. 13) at Berkey Hall and the Student Union on the northern edge of Michigan State’s campus.
Two people were killed at Berkey Hall, and a third was killed at the Student Union, according to authorities. Five other people were injured during the shootings.

At 12:13 p.m. Tuesday, MSU Police identified two of the students who were killed: sophomore Brian Fraser, of Grosse Pointe, and junior Alexandria Verner, of Clawson.
“In respect to the family’s wishes, will not be releasing the third victim’s name at this time,” police said in a release. “We sincerely ask the media and community members to respect the families’ privacy.”
Officials said during a Tuesday briefing that all eight people who were shot are Michigan State University students. Five of them remain in critical condition at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

The superintendent of the Grosse Pointe Public School System sent a letter to parents saying two of the students who were killed in the shooting were recent Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South graduates.
The suspected shooter killed himself around 11:35 p.m. Monday at an off-campus location in Lansing, authorities said. Officials believe he acted alone, so the shelter-in-place was lifted at that time.
