EAST LANSING, Mich. – Police are investigating a note that was found Monday night in the possession of the suspected shooter at Michigan State University.
Three people were killed and five others were injured when a 43-year-old man opened fire at Berkey Hall and the Student Union on the northern edge of Michigan State’s campus.

Police said the first shots were fired inside Berkey Hall at 8:18 p.m. Monday, and two people were killed. Moments later, another shooting was reported at the Student Union, where another person was killed.
Five other people were injured between the two shootings, and they are in critical condition at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. All eight of the shooting victims were MSU students, police said.

The search for the suspected shooter continued until 11:35 p.m., when he killed himself at an off-campus location in Lansing.
“The suspect in this incident was located outside of the MSU campus, and it does appear that that suspect has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Chris Rozman, the interim deputy chief with the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety. “It is confirmed that he is deceased.”
MSU Police confirmed Tuesday morning that a note was found in the possession of the 43-year-old man. That note is currently being investigated by law enforcement, authorities said.
