WARREN, Mich. – A man got angry that the fish counter at a Warren market was closed Sunday night, so he grabbed a frozen fish and struck the clerk in the head with it, prosecutors said.
The attack happened at 7:13 p.m. Sunday (April 2) at the Desi Fruit Market on 9 Mile Road in Warren.
MD Jobul Hussain walked up to the fish counter, and the clerk told him that it had closed at 7 p.m. due to Ramadan, according to authorities.
Hussain is accused of arguing with the clerk, grabbing a four-pound frozen hilsa, and using the fish to strike the clerk in the head.
The clerk was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition is unknown.
“I never thought I’d have to say this, but if you assault someone with a fish in our county, you will be prosecuted,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. “A frozen fish is dangerous if you use it to hit someone on the head.”
Hussain is charged with one count of aggravated assault, which is a one-year misdemeanor. He was arraigned Monday in Warren District Court and given a $5,000 personal bond.
The next court date has not yet been scheduled.
