Off-duty Waterford Township officer foils 18-year-old police impersonator stunt during traffic stop

Mansoor claimed to be a Detroit officer during Oakland County traffic stop

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – An 18-year-old was caught impersonating an officer after attempting to make a traffic stop with an Oakland County off-duty police officer.

Oakland County Sheriff’s Office reported that 18-year-old Christan Mansoor from Macomb Township was impersonating a Detroit officer when he pulled over an off-duty Waterford Township police officer. Mansoor attempted the traffic stop on Monday after 11 p.m. in Rochester Hills around M-59 and Crooks Road.

The off-duty Waterford Township police officer told officials that Mansoor was driving a silver BMW with flashing red and blue lights when she got pulled over. Officials say that deputies were dispatched when a report of a possible police impersonator was relayed to them.

Oakland County Sheriff’s Office stated that the off-duty Waterford Township officer followed Mansoor and confronted him near Dequindre and Hamlin Roads. When she asked the “officer” for his I.D., Mansoor told her he was a Detroit 12th Precinct officer. Mansoor was asked to retrieve his I.D. from his car, and the 18-year-old drove away.

The off-duty officer followed Mansoor to a Shelby Township trailer park but lost his vehicle.

Officials say that deputies found Mansoor switching license plates from the BMW he was driving to another one that he owned. When encountered by the officials, he ran off and was eventually arrested after the chase.

“Individuals that pose as police officers present a threat to the public and undermine legitimate law enforcement,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. “Thankfully, this individual was caught and is being held accountable for this incident. But if you had a similar incident with this described automobile or this pictured individual, please contact us.”

The 18-year-old was arraigned in court on Wednesday in Rochester Hills on a misdemeanor charge of impersonating a public officer. Mansoor was given a $5,000 personal bond and has been released.
