EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A Roseville man who killed his ex-fiancée’s mother and uncle while on a video call has been charged and is facing a sentence in May.

32-year-old Jerel McCrary has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of felony firearm.

On March 25, 2022, McCrary sent a text message to his ex-fiance threatening to kill everyone she knew. Officials say that McCary when to the ex-fiancée’s mother’s home in Eastpointe and video-called her. On the video call, the Roseville man shot the ex-fiancée’s 63-year-old mother and 57-year-old uncle multiple times, killing them. Officials say that they were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said in April 2022 that they believed McCrary went to the Eastpointe home in search of one of the 63-year-old woman’s two daughters.

McCary and his father, who was with him at the time of his arrest, were arrested outside Bowling Green, Ohio, the day after the fatal house shooting. According to officials, the Roseville man’s father was an accessory after the fact.

“This unspeakable act of violence is a total disregard for human life,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido in a statement. “This can only be described as the actions of a coward.”

The 32-year-old is set to be sentenced on May 23 at 9 a.m.
