There’s a new scam targeting thousands of Michiganders who rely on unemployment benefits from the state.

There are some big red flags to watch out for to protect your personal information.

On Wednesday (May 24), a warning from the Better Business Bureau to protect your personal information.

“Anytime there’s an opportunity for a scammer to get money, they go for it, and when people need unemployed assistance, they go for it,” said Melanie Duqusenel of the Better Business Bureau.

Duqusenel put out the warning about the new UIA-related scam, which targets those actively collecting. Many people received an email saying UIA was asking to verify personal information related to their tax filing.
