Officials say Smith-Johnson pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded everything he had.

When the victim refused, Smith-Johnson shot at the victim, forcing him to take cover, which caused the 30-year-old suspect to shoot at him four additional times before getting arrested a short time after fleeing on foot.

Smith-Johnson bond was set at $1,500,000, and upon his release, he must wear a steel cuff tether, be on house arrest, receive a mental health assessment, and refrain from alcohol and drugs.

“As Macomb County Prosecutor, I will uphold the law and hold accountable those who choose violence,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office will continue to partner with our local law enforcement to ensure all who are convicted face the proper consequences and punishment for their actions. Our office will continue to work tirelessly to ensure our citizens of Macomb County are safe and that justice will be imposed on those who attempt to disrupt our family’s security and safety.”

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Tuesday (June 6) at 8 a.m., and the preliminary exam is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13 at 8 a.m. in the 38th Eastpointe District Court.
