Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough is warning residents of another phone scam where the caller portrays himself as a “Captain” with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough is warning residents of another phone scam where the caller portrays himself as a “Police Captain” with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The phone scam occurred Thursday (May 25) when a person claimed he was Captain David Raymond of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office during a conversation with a Monroe County citizen and told the victim that they failed to report for jury duty.

The scammer demanded that gift cards be purchased and the card information be provided over the phone, or they would be arrested.

The phone number that was associated with the scam was 734-240-7000.

Officials are investigating and attempting to identify the imposter and where the calls originated.

Goodnough is reminding residents that no law enforcement agency would call citizens and demand money or face arrest for any reason.
