DETROIT – After being cited by undercover sheriff’s deputies for a lewd act and having his truck towed, Detroit Police Commissioner Bryan Ferguson resigned from the board Thursday night.
Ferguson was busted around 7 a.m. Wednesday (July 12) near Schoolcraft Road and Sorrento Avenue in Detroit.
Deputies saw him and a known prostitute in his truck engaging in what appeared to be a sex act.
Ferguson, in a statement, claimed it was all a big misunderstanding.
Board Chair QuanTez Presley addressed the issue at the start of the commission meeting Thursday night.
“We, as the board, are well aware of the reports that has been made regarding Mr. Ferguson,” said Presley.
Then, Ferguson offered his resignation, and the board unanimously voted to accept it.
The board’s Vice Chair, Rev. Jim Holley, said he respected the decision.
“I think it was the right thing to do,” said Holley.
Commissioner Ricardo Moore concurred.
“That was his way of handling the situation for the board and the public trust,” said Moore. “That’s what it boils down to.”
