DETROIT – A Detroit man accused of killing his neighbor will be in court Monday for a competency hearing.
Prosecutors said the argument between the neighbors began over an Amazon package from a year prior to the shooting.
The shooting happened around 6:47 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, in the 8500 block of Robson Street on the city’s west side.
Michael Craig Lackey is accused of shooting Michele Elder, 61, in the head and leaving her dead in the street. Prosecutors said Lackey barricaded himself in his home after the shooting. There was a brief standoff before he surrendered and was taken into custody.
Lack has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder, witness retaliation, and two counts of felony firearm.
Lackey’s competency hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2023. During the hearing, the court will hear from a mental health professional on whether he can stand trial.
