Crash on Lodge Freeway kills 1, driver taken into custody

Police believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in crash

DETROIT – A 21-year-old was killed Tuesday, Oct. 10, when a speeding driver reportedly struck their vehicle on the Lodge Freeway in Detroit.

The crash happened just after 11 p.m. near Outer Drive. According to authorities, a 34-year-old man from Warren was speeding and struck another vehicle. A 21-year-old passenger in the vehicle he reportedly struck died at the scene. The driver had to be removed from the vehicle by Detroit fire crews. They were rushed to a hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

The man from warren was not injured.

The crash closed the southbound lanes of the Lodge until about 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Police believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash and that the man from Warren refused all tests. A search warrant is being sought to test his blood.
