FARMNGTON HILLS, Mich. – Metro Detroit police agencies are stepping up patrols in response to community fears related to the conflict in the Middle East.
Farmington Hills police Chief Jeff King said they’ve been getting numerous calls from community members expressing concern for their safety as the conflict in the Middle East continues to grow.
King said they are aware of no direct threats to any place, event, or group.
“I was on a nationwide conference call with our federal partners today (and) we have no information of anything in Farmington Hills, but we want to be ahead of this,” said King.
Police have increased patrols throughout Farmington Hills to stay on top of the situation.
“(We) hope that our uniformed presence will not only serve as a crime deterrent but will give a sense of comfort to the public as they continue their daily routines,” King said.
Farmington Hills officers have also been assigned daily checks of houses of worship, with a special focus on synagogues and mosques within the city.
Other law enforcement agencies have put out similar notices increasing patrols, including the Birmingham and Oak Park police departments.
