Detroit senior frustrated with sale of next door home with overgrown backyard

DETROIT – A senior living on Detroit’s east side is fed up with the overgrown backyard next door.

Local 4 has been able to get him help with cleaning and taking care of the issue before, but now, aside from the condition of the home and yard, there’s a new concern for worry now that the house has been transferred to new hands.

“Oh man, they spin me like a spinning top man,” said resident, Kenneth Holloway.

The house next door to Keneth Holloway’s has been man a major source of stress for the seniors living on Beniteu Street, from overgrown grass to rodents coming from the home.

“I’m right next door. I’ve been inquiring about this house with all the BS over here, grass and, and animals and things next door to me all during the summer,” Holloway said.

The city has been cleaning the property in the past as a courtesy, but now that responsibility falls on the new owner of the home after a recent foreclosure.

“I call Wayne County and say ask them and I say well, ‘Why nobody came out here? Who have you sold the house and cut the grass and fix it up?’ They tell me they can’t come until we give them a key,” Holloway explained.

And with the overgrown backyard remaining a headache, Holloway isn’t too pleased with the fact that he wasn’t able to buy the home -- especially since he’s dealt with all the problems for so long. The County isn’t able to comment at this time.

“It’s so sad that I had to keep calling about for about this house. I should have had this house, but they let someone else get it,” Holloway added.

And to make matters worse, Holloway just had to bury his son who passed away recently. This on top of what he’s already going through is a lot for anyone to handle.
