Community has growing concerns over planned cemetery ‘Trunk-or-Treat’ event in Clinton Township

Someone from cemetery stated car show would not take place

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Growing concerns over a planned “Trunk or Treat” at a Clinton Township cemetery have some community members unhappy about plans to hold the event where their loved ones were laid to rest.

The event is set to occur at the Cadillac Memorial Gardens East off Garfield Road in Clinton Township in two days. But some aren’t too happy that it is happening in the final resting place for so many.

“It’s just not appropriate,’ said Sandra Haroutunian. “It’s kinda morbid, actually.”

Haroutunian is one of the people displeased with a Trunk or Treat event happening at Cadillac Memorial Gardens.

“This is sacred ground, and it’s disrespectful to say that you’re gonna go trick or treating on sacred ground when there are 100 Trunk or Treats all over the county where they can do this,” Haroutunian said.

Haroutunian was also not too happy with the flyer for the event also, implying there would be classic cars as well.

“This kind of crosses the line, especially with the idea of having a vintage car show,” Haroutunian said. “I mean, that’s just not the place to have trick or treating, and you can go anywhere to do that all over this county.”

Over the phone, someone with the cemetery stated there would not be a car show despite the flyer.

“Their brochure is coming out saying vintage car show unless they changed that because they’re getting a lot of flack,” Haroutunian said.

Many are saying that the event was for the children.

“There’s so many places for kids to go, and I think that parents would be wise to go and check that out,” Haroutunian said. “My hope is that nobody shows up, and I’m hoping that this sends a message that maybe next year this will not repeat.”

Local 4 was expected to receive a statement from the cemetery but had not received one.
