Detroit man charged with assault of 44-year-old Ypsilanti woman

Victim charged with second-degree murder

Leandre Devon Love (WDIV)

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Leandre Devon Love, 36, of Detroit, with the assault of a 44-year-old Ypsilanti woman.

The assault occurred on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 7:03 p.m. when Love in retaliation, hit the woman with a vehicle outside of the Detroit Police Department 9th Precinct in the 11100 block of Gratiot Avenue.

The charges stem from a shooting that killed the suspects’ mother, Phebe Williams, 51, during a baby shower on Edmore Drive that resulted in Shawanda Woods shooting Love’s mother in the neck.

After the shooting, Woods drove herself to the 9th Precinct, where she was followed by Love, who ran her over, non-fatally injuring her.

Love was charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault.

Woods was charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm. She remains in police custody.

He was arraigned on Oct. 18 in the 36th District Court and given a $100,000 personal bond.

The probable cause conference is scheduled for Oct. 26 at 8:30 a.m., and the preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 1 at 8:45 a.m.
