The charges stem from the alleged abduction of a 24-year-old man Monday, Oct. 23.

Police said he was taken by four armed men wearing ski masks from the Lifetime Fitness on Lakeside Boulevard parking lot. Authorities said Angel Antonio Andujar-Ruiz and three others carjacked the 24-year-old man at gunpoint, restrained him in his own vehicle, tortured him and drove to the victim’s house.

Officers with the Sterling Heights Police Department arrived at the victim’s home and Andujar-Ruiz allegedly drove off with the victim.

The other three suspects fled on foot from the house. They remain at large.

After a chase, police said Andujar-Ruiz crashed the vehicle near 15 Mile Road and Maple Lane, where he was taken into custody. The victim was reportedly found tied up in the back of the crashed pickup truck.

Andujar-Ruiz, a 38-year-old man from Tampa, was charged with 12 felonies, including carjacking, armed robbery, torture, first-degree home invasion, unlawful imprisonment, felony firearm and more.
