Long-time education and principal Tonya Hickman said Stevenson Elementary School is doing something innovative this fall. They’re launching the Ira Land Family Clinic at the school.
”It was important for us to have a health clinic on campus because we look at educating the whole child,” Hickman said. “And when you look at educating the whole child, if the mental health and the physical is not taken care of, we won’t do much educating.”
Hickman said the clinic isn’t just a resource for students and staff, it’s open to the entire community. Anyone can make an appointment for a variety of reasons.
”We knew our families were struggling getting vaccination appointments,” Hickman said. “They were struggling getting assistance when it came to mental health appointments.”
The Ira Land Family Clinic at Stevenson Elementary School is made possible through a partnership with Authority Health. The new health center is staffed every day with a nurse practitioner, medical assistant and behavioral health provider.
They offer basic physical health care and mental health support through individual, group and family counseling.
Hickman said the clinic is just one of the latest innovative health care measures happening on campus.
