Emotions run high in sentencing for murder of Detroit nurse kidnapped from hospital

‘You ain’t fit to live’

DETROIT – A 36-year-old man was sentenced to 35-60 years in prison Tuesday, Nov. 7, for the murder of 29-year-old Patrice Wilson.

The sentencing came after Jamere Miller pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in October. Miller accepted a sentence agreement that will dismiss 10 other charges he initially faced in exchange for his guilty plea to second-degree murder, officials said. He pleaded guilty to stalking Wilson after her shift ended as a registered nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He was wearing a blonde wig at the time of Wilson’s abduction on May 13. She was found dead the next day.

Before he was sentenced, Wilson’s family had the chance to speak directly to her killer.

“How would you like someone to do that to your mama? Or your sister?” asked Wilson’s grandmother, Pamela Golden. “You ain’t fit to live.”

Miller had a prepared statement, but he only read a little bit of it and didn’t want to finish the rest. He did hint toward a motive and said Wilson wanted to pay off something they owed and that he went after her for money. He added that his relationship with Wilson was toxic and apologized for killing her.
