Nearly 300 countdown crosswalk signals are coming to Westland

Project is set to begin in 2024

WESTLAND, Mich. – The city of Westland, which was awarded $670,000 through an MDOT program, will help increase the safety and ease of getting around more than 40 spots in the city.

Studies have shown that countdown signals for pedestrians reduce the rate of injury or death from a car accident by 30%.

Westland officials are also using the money to improve the intersection at North Wayne Road and Hunter Avenue.

There, left turn lanes will be created for northbound and southbound traffic.

The current pedestrian walk signals will be upgraded, and the street will be made to be current with ADA standards.

The project is set to begin in 2024.
