CHESTONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Michigan State Police believe alcohol could have been a factor in a three-vehicle collision that took place Monday, Nov. 6, just west of Gaylord.
According to authorities, two pickup trucks driving southbound on US-131 in Chestonia Township collided, which caused one of the trucks to hit a northbound vehicle. Police said five people were hospitalized with serious injuries. One was airlifted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City and a 15-year-old was airlifted to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Police believe the at-fault driver, a 40-year-old man from Elmira, was intoxicated at the time of the crash. The speedometer on his truck reportedly indicated he was traveling at 105 mph at the time of impact.
The investigation is ongoing.
