Hundreds from Jewish community in Metro Detroit hold vigil for hostages held by Hamas

Names of more than 240 hostages were read

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Hundreds from the Metro Detroit Jewish community gathered in Farmington Hills Tuesday to remember and pray for the hostages being held in Gaza.

The Jewish Federation of Detroit hosted the event, handing out hundreds of posters with the names and faces of those taken.

“We are raising up our voices to remind the world to not forget them,” David Kurzmann with the Jewish Federation of Detroit said.

The names of the more than 240 hostages were read and speakers shared emotional stories.

Aya, a former teacher near Gaza, talked about the 23 hostages she personally knows.

“I have students, 11 and 12-year-old kids, that were taken,” said Aya. “I know families, friends, my cousin’s son was taken.”

Many in the crowd cried as she showed pictures and told stories of her students and their families being held hostage.

“Everybody needs to do everything possible to bring them home,” Aya said.
