ROYAL OAK, MICH. – Moonbeams for Sweet Dreams for the kids being treated at Beaumont Royal Oak is back for another holiday season.
Seeing the people in the crowd holding flashlights shining at the young patients inside and those patients doing the same was incredible on Friday (Dec. 8).
For people who are spending time inside a hospital this time of year, it can be especially rough.
If you’re looking to spread holiday cheer, Moonbeams For Sweet Dreams is undoubtedly the place to be, as it is a moving display of love.
“Trying to bring joy to people in a hard situation, I think it is awesome,” said a man in attendance.
Seeing everyone cheering up the patients in the pediatric unit at Core Well Health’s Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak was heartfelt.
“I wish I had this when I was post-surgery at the hospital,” Lindsey Wu. “It feels really good. When I was in the hospital, I felt kind of lonely, so I think I would have appreciated this.”
There was a sea of light for the opening night of Moonbeams For Sweet Dreams.
“Showing love to people is important, especially this time of year,” said Mariah Abrams.
The patients inside returned the love, creating a sense of community with no words spoken, only light.
“It touched my heart,” said a woman in attendance.
“It is an overwhelming experience as a parent inside when you are looking out,” said Shelley Chinn. “I knew my child was going to be OK, but my heart was full for all the families and the children inside.”
DTE employee Carl Simm was one of three people who spent 10 hours for 10 days decorating a vehicle for the holiday season. For him, coming there was personal.
“When I was younger, I actually stayed at this hospital for a week, so for me, it is really special to come back here and do this event for other children,” said Simm.
Every night at 8 p.m., you can come to support the young patients. The event lasts 10 minutes but will conclude on Dec. 23.
