OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Oakland County sheriff’s deputies were searching for a man who is accused of “randomly” shooting at a nurse who was driving home from work in Rochester Hills.

The suspect, Cortez Ulysses Taylor, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. Saturday as he was returning to his home near Rochester Road and South Boulevard in Troy.

Police say he was taken into custody after a short foot chase and a detective was injured in the process.

“(Tayor) did… vigorously fight with the deputies, and one of the detectives on the fugitive team received minor injuries,” a release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office stated.

Cortez, 29, is being held at the Oakland County Jail.

“I am proud of the tireless work our team put into this to ensure this dangerous individual was quickly arrested before anyone was killed,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.
