Man, 51, killed when fire tears through mobile home in Wayne County

2 others hospitalized with smoke inhalation

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man was killed Sunday when a massive fire broke out at a mobile home in Van Buren Township.

Investigators were still working to determine the cause of a fire that tore through a mobile home on North Ponderosa Trail near Belleville Road at around 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10. A woman and a girl were able to escape from the blaze, but a 51-year-old man died due to the fire, officials said.

A neighbor told Local 4 there was “so much” thick smoke billowing from the home. He also said the flames were extremely high.

The woman and girl who were able to escape were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. One of them also reportedly had an injured hand.

Most of the home appeared to be completely destroyed by the fire. The cause of the blaze was not yet known.
