FERNDALE, Mich. – Police in Ferndale are crediting the city’s Flock license plate reader technology with helping apprehend three men wanted in connection with an August home invasion.

According to authorities, the men disguised themselves as police and broke into a Ferndale home in what police called a “targeted” invasion.

Police said a 65-year-old man was accosted outside his Ferndale home by four men in police gear on Aug. 4. He was handcuffed and the unknown men entered the house. They reportedly broke into the house wearing ski masks and tactical vests that had “police” written on them.

No injuries were reported.

Using Ferndale’s Flock Safety Automated License Plate Reader, a joint investigation with the FBI was able to get search warrants for four different locations, where investigators were able to recover evidence connected to the robbery. Police said 20 illegal firearms, high-capacity magazines, narcotics and more than 800 rounds of ammunition were seized.

43-year-old Edward Clay, 37-year-old Trevor Glenn and 31-year-old Bernard Gardner were taken into police custody. All three men have been charged with armed robbery, first-degree home invasion and felony firearm.

All three men were given a $250,00 cash/surety bond and are expected to return to court Dec. 18.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ferndale Police Department at 248-541-3650.
