Biological mother kidnaps 2 children, barricades self, kids in Highland Park home

Mother took kids from home in Detroit

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – A biological mother kidnapped her two children from a home in Detroit and then barricaded herself with the kids inside another home in Highland Park.

The mother, who does not have custody of the children, kidnapped her 2-year-old and 8-month-old Wednesday (Dec. 13) at 7:30 a.m. in the 19300 block of Snowden Street in Detroit.

Officials say they tracked the mother to a home in the 100 block of Stevens Street in Highland Park.

Police say crisis negotiators are trying to establish communication, but so far, they have been unsuccessful.

“Units from the 12 Percent responded to the 1900 block of Snowden, and when officers arrived on the scene, they learned that the suspect, who is the children’s mother, had kidnapped the 8-month-old and her 2-year-old child,” said Detroit Police Department Commander Ryan Connor. “We have also learned that the suspect does not have custody of the children right now.”

Connor continued:

“Units were able to track the suspect over to the 100 block of Stevens in Highland Park. Currently, we have crisis negotiators on the scene. They are attempting to communicate with the suspect. We learned that the suspect is inside of the four family flat. We’re continuing to keep communication with the suspect. It’s unsuccessful as of right now.”

This is a breaking news story, and updates will be posted as they become available.
