Driver fleeing police identified as 20-year-old, Amir Napper

The airborne driver who killed an innocent man with his vehicle while fleeing police in Detroit has been charged with four counts. (Michigan State Police)

DETROIT – The airborne driver who killed an innocent man with his vehicle while fleeing police in Detroit has been charged with four counts.

The incident occurred on Monday (Dec. 11) at 9:15 p.m. on the southbound lane of M-39 (Southfield Freeway) at Grand River Avenue, where the innocent man in his late 50s was sitting in his vehicle.

The Michigan State Police said they were not actively pursuing the man, who has been identified as 20-year-old, Amir Napper.

Napper has been charged with:

  • Fleeing and eluding first-degree
  • Reckless driving causing death
  • DWLS causing death
  • CCW 1

The 20-year-old man was arraigned on Thursday.
