Oakland County sheriff’s deputies shoot, kill man in Pontiac

Sheriff’s office said man had ‘two-handed posture’ when shot

PONTIAC, Mich. – A 33-year-old was shot and killed by Oakland County sheriff’s deputies after a pursuit Wednesday, Dec. 13, in Pontiac.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were on patrol near the intersection of North Astor and North Pike streets at about 9 p.m. when they saw a man in a silver sedan believed to be involved in a shooting at Carriage Circle Apartments. After deputies initiated a traffic stop, the driver reportedly fled the scene as he was being questioned.

Deputies pursued the sedan and were able to stop it using a PIT Maneuver near the intersection of Westway and Benson streets.

Authorities said the man exited the vehicle and turned abruptly toward the deputies, who shot him. The man reportedly had a “two-handed posture” at the time. The sheriff’s office did not say if the man was armed or not.

Aid was given to the man, who was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing. Further details are expected to be revealed when the investigation is complete.
