ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A 46-year-old man from Kentucky accused of driving while impaired has been taken into custody by Michigan State Police.
According to authorities, the man crashed his car on I-696 in Royal Oak just before 3 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 16. Police said he showed signs of impairment and when he exited the vehicle, a trooper saw “a large quantity of narcotics in his jacket pocket.”

Police reportedly seized 75 grams of crack cocaine and fentanyl and a loaded handgun that was found near the vehicle’s center console.
Authorities said the investigation confirmed the driver was impaired, driving without a license and a convicted felon.
He has been lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending arraignment.
