Mound Road reopens after 28-month renovation project in Macomb County ends

Project launched in 2021

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Mound Road reopens after the 28-month renovation project in Macomb County came to an end.

Macomb County officials will update you on the reopening of Mound Road on Wednesday.

The $220 million Innovate Mound project rebuilt Mound Road from I-696 to M-59 in Sterling Heights and Warren Avenue.

The project launched in March 2022 and has caused months of road closures and frustrations for drivers and business owners.

An employee at Warren Market on Mound Road was relieved to see the road reopen on Tuesday (Dec. 19).

He said construction has been bad for business.

“We definitely saw about a minimum of a third of business lost,” Brian Blaisdell said. “If it weren’t for having such a dedicated and loyal customer base in the area because the store has been here for so long, it would have been a much harder time. But I know even some of our regular customers even brought up the fact that they avoided coming down Mound.”

Macomb County officials will celebrate the reopening of Mound Road with a press conference Wednesday at 11 a.m.
