LIVONIA, Mich. – All lanes of I-275 will reopen Friday in Metro Detroit as the revitalization project takes a winter pause before officially wrapping up next year.
Starting Friday, Dec. 22, MDOT expects all northbound and southbound lanes of I-275 to be open between 5 Mile Road in Livonia and Sibley Road in Huron Township -- a 16-mile stretch across Metro Detroit. Travel on I-275 has been affected by an ongoing revitalization project known as Revive275.
Officials said Thursday that temporary pavement markings have been installed and barriers have been removed in preparation for the winter construction pause. The move comes just before millions of Michigan residents -- about 3.3 million, AAA projects -- are expected to travel on the roads for the year-end holidays.
There will still be some construction work on I-275 during the winter, but only on the freeway’s median and shoulders, MDOT said. Crews will then return to work in the spring to complete several objectives, including “installing intelligent transportation system infrastructure, emergency pull-off removals, epoxy overlays on bridges, restoration work,” and more.
MDOT expects the entire $281 million project to be finished by next summer.
