Future stars of sports entertainment wrestle for great cause in Metro Detroit

New Edge Pro Wrestling to crown its new queen in the ring

Women have become a force in professional wrestling, and some future queens of the ring may be on display soon in Metro Detroit.

The women will be fighting for a great cause, which just so happens to receive a big gold belt if declared the winner.

The championship belt that eight ladies from all over the country will be fighting for is the New Edge Pro Wrestling Women’s Championship, and it’s something special because of who will benefit from the show.

“It’s actually the crowing of our first-ever women’s champion for New Edge Pro Wrestling,” said Owner Sean Tyler.

New Edge Pro Wrestling is back; this time, it’s to crown a queen in the ring.

“It’s cool to me because these women finally get a chance to really show what they can do,” Tyler said.

The benefits will be going towards helping women in battered or abusive situations.

“We are putting on this show for shelters for homeless women and children, and they have programs that help kids and women with coping and learning new skills and things of that nature to kind of help better their situation essentially,” Tyler said.

Not only will fans be able to see the action, but they’ll also be able to rest knowing they’re helping someone with the purchase of every ticket.

The show itself will show how far women’s wrestling has come.

“Women’s wrestling, if you look at it 20 years ago and you look at it now, it’s a whole nother ball game,” Tyler said. “Women are almost to, if not already, at the same level as men - in some cases above the level of other male wrestlers.”

And if nothing else, it’s inspirational for the younger fans.

“This is a good way for women in our industry to inspire women outside of our industry, to show the strength of things that maybe 10-15 years ago, women wouldn’t have thought they could do, and now, it’s showing that any woman can really do what they wanna go,” Tyler said.

The show to see who takes home all of the gold will be on Dec. 22. The bell time is 7:30 p.m., but the doors open at 6:30 p.m.

You want to make sure to take advantage of what happens at the Taylor Trade Center, as it will be a night to remember.

And as far as live entertainment goes these days, it’s pretty affordable. Tickets will be $15 for adults and $10 for kids aged 12 and under.
