PONTIAC, Mich. – A Pontiac man is facing felony charges after detectives said he was in possession of a “large quantity” of child sexually abusive material.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office received a tip in this case in early October. Justin Robert Newton, 43, was arrested after the sheriff’s office said an investigation found child sexually abusive material on his laptop and mobile devices.
The computer crimes unit “uncovered a large quantity of images and video depicting underage individuals in a sexually explicit manner,” according to a press release.
Newton has been charged with five counts of aggravated possession of child sexually explicit material and five counts of using a computer in the commission of a crime. Each charge is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine.
Newton was arraigned on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, on all felony charges. Bond was denied.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2024. A preliminary exam is scheduled for Jan. 11, 2024.
