GARDEN CITY, Mich. – A Good Samaritan was shot in the head after witnessing a violent crash Tuesday, Dec. 26, in Garden City.
It happened at about 8 a.m. near the intersection of Ford and Venoy roads. Police said a 37-year-old man from Hamtramck got into a crash with another driver and when they exited their vehicle, he shot a witness who was approaching the scene to render aid.
“I was walking towards the car to help out to help them out,” said Antoine Williams. “And guys jumped out the car and started shooting and start shooting in one direction and he saw me start shooting at me and I was like in a trance.”
Williams owns MFER Seasoning & Sauces in Livonia and was stopping to get gas on the way to work when the crash happened. When he tried to help, he was shot through the ear.
“I couldn’t believe I just got shot,” Williams said.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured the shooter chasing Williams into a gas station after shooting him outside. Unable to lock the door, the suspect followed him inside.
Williams said he thought he was going to die.
“I don’t even know this guy. I don’t know him at all,” Williams recalled. “And he was like, that look in his eyes like he was on something. And he kept on, he pulled out a gun again. And the gun definitely got jammed.”
Williams was able to make it out of the store without being shot again. The suspect went in a different direction and was later shot and killed by a responding Garden City police officer.
Williams and the other driver were transported to a hospital to be treated for their injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Michigan State Police at 1-855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
