Mild winter hurting Metro Detroit snow removal businesses

Snow removal businesses are hurting after an unseasonable wet and warm start to winter.

Tony Tidwell of TLT Lawncare & Snow Removal said the lack of snow is tough on his business and others like it.

“We at least have three or four months of snow (in Michigan) and December is supposed to be one of the worst and we haven’t had any snow,” he said. “So it gets pretty tight.”

Tidwell said 35 to 40 percent of his business is made up of snow removal services.

Without snow to plow, it’s tough to pay employees and to service equipment, he said.

Tidwell has been in the business 15 years, but said the last seven have been challenging due to the lack of snow.
