Detroit’s no-snow December was among warmest on record

The numbers are in: This past December was far from a normal winter month for Metro Detroit.

According to data published on New Year’s Day by the National Weather Service, this December was the third-warmest in Detroit’s history.

Israel says it will defend itself against genocide accusations at world court filed by South Africa

Israel will defend itself before the United Nation’s top court against charges that it has engaged in genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, officials said Tuesday, a rare engagement with the world body, which Israel often denounces as biased against it.

South Africa launched the case Friday at the International Court of Justice at The Hague, Netherlands, saying the magnitude of death, destruction and humanitarian crisis in Gaza from the Israeli military campaign against Hamas meets the threshold of genocide under international law. South Africa asked the court to order Israel to halt its attacks in Gaza.

Harbaugh removes thorns from postseason struggles as Michigan football wins OT Rose Bowl thriller

Jim Harbaugh has removed the thorns from his postseason struggles as the Michigan Wolverines took down Nick Saban and his Alabama Crimson Tide in an overtime thriller inside Rose Bowl Stadium.

Harbaugh, prior to Monday’s (Jan. 1) triumphant victory at the Rose Bowl, was 1-6 in bowl games and 0-2 in the College Football Playoff, but he and team 144 overcame yet another obstacle as they’re now one win away from being called national champions.
