Woman sentenced to life without parole in murder of pregnant U-M Dearborn student

‘You are going to get every day that you deserve’

DETROIT – A family received closure Friday, Jan. 5, in a murder case that has dragged on for years.

Kabria Arnold, 20, was killed in November 2019. The college softball player was pregnant at the time, just days away from revealing the news of her first child to her family.

The woman who pulled the trigger faced her family and a judge at sentencing. Emotions ran high in the courtroom.

The father and sister of Kabria Arnold finally had the chance to speak to Gabrielle Brantley, the woman convicted in Kabria’s shocking death that occurred on November 10, 2019. Police, prosecutors, and the jury found that Brantley is the person who shot the budding nurse and softball star. The motive was apparently a man, as the two were reportedly connected through a love triangle with a boyfriend.

Brantley also had her say at her sentencing. She claimed she was innocent.

Judge Sharon Walker had the final say in the ordeal, sentencing Brantley to life in prison without parole.
