2 men, including well known double amputee killed in shooting on Detroit’s west side

Intersection has been shutdown due to investigation

DETROIT – Two men, including a well-known double amputee, were killed in a shooting on Detroit’s west side.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday (Jan. 10) on 8 Mile Road and the Southfield Service Drive.

Witnesses say a panhandler who sits in a chair at the intersection was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The intersection has been shut down, but police say both men died after shooting each other with the same gun.

The man who died on the scene was driving a black Dodge Charger. Officials say he could be in his 30s. The panhandler was in his 60s.

For some reason, the two men got into some sort of fight; it’s unclear over what; the Detroit Police Department isn’t sure. But one of them produced a gun.

DPD said they were not sure which of them was armed, but they fought over the gun when one shot was fired, they fought some more, and both of them ended up being shot and killed by each other with the same firearm.

The 60-year-old man, who was in a wheelchair, was taken to Providence Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

This is a breaking news story, and updates will be posted as they become available.
