DETROIT – Officials say a cop and two suspects have been shot inside an apartment building on Detroit’s west side.
The shooting occurred on Thursday (Jan. 11) at 11:18 p.m. in the 12900 block of Burt Road in Detroit.

Officers responded to a suppressed Shotspotter run on Burt Road and Davidson.
“A suppressed Shotspotter run means the rounds are likely coming from inside of the dwelling,” said White. “The officers could clearly hear the rounds going off inside. Additional officers arrive on the scene and get into what we call a stack, which means they line up, and they enter this active shooter situation.”
Police say the officer was transferred to Sinai Grace Hospital, where Detroit police Chief James White gave details on what took place.
White said the officers, upon entering the facility, went upstairs, where the first two officers encountered the suspect, took fire, and were shot. The second officer retreated while pulling the injured officer out of harms way and returned fire.
“It is unknown at this time if the rounds that we fired took effect,” White said. “A second officer returned fire, and it is also unknown if his rounds took effect. That’s due in part to the fact that they arrived and the shooting was going on.”
White said three weapons were recovered. He also said that they are trying to discover if one of the suspects was shot on the scene or if he was shot by a police officer who had a shotgun in his possession while the two other weapons were recovered.
The two suspects that were shot too were transported to Sinai Grace Hospital with the injured officer.
The officer was hit at least two times in his upper body, but he was talking and alert.
All three are expected to make a recovery.
