DETROIT – Local 4 has learned more information about the shooting that took place last night that left a police officer and two other people hospitalized on Detroit’s west side.
The shooting occurred on Thursday (Jan. 11) at 11:18 p.m. in the 12900 block of Burt Road in Detroit.
Officers responded to a suppressed Shotspotter run on Burt Road and Davidson and ended up in a gunfight.
It was an intense and dangerous situation that involved Detroit police officers not only responding but running into an apartment building as the shootout on the second floor left one officer shot.
The officer shot was rescued by his fellow officers, who rushed him to Sinai Grace Hospital.
Two others involved in the shootout were also hit.
Detroit police Chief James White reviewed the body cameras of the officers who ran into that gunfight.
“They went into an active shooter situation in an apartment that could’ve been absolutely horrible,” said White. “It could have left a number of people killed, and it’s just amazing. I’m just so proud of them.”
The Detroit Police Department does not think the two other people shot were shot by their officers.
