Police presence in Detroit expanded for Lions-Rams game

DETROIT – While no one expects any trouble downtown, crowds in and around Ford Field are expected to be unusually large for the Lions’ first home playoff game since they played in Pontiac.

Detroit police wants everyone to be prepared.

Make no mistake, the Lions hosting their first playoff game at Ford Field on Sunday is huge. And the crowds are expected to be massive all around downtown Detroit.

Police are expecting thousands of people to come to Detroit for the Lions game Sunday, Jan. 14.

Chief James White said residents can see an increased police presence over the weekend. He said the plan to secure such a big event is two pronged -- a traffic plan and a crime safety plan.

White said people should plan to come early as his officers will make sure traffic keeps flowing in and out of the stadium area. People should lock their vehicles, leave weapons at home and not bring alcohol outside.

“Don’t need a weapon down here,” White said. “If you have a CPL, leave it at home. Secure it and have a good time.”

He added that there will be undercover officers working the event too.
