Detroit Lions fan attends playoff game 1 day after appendix removal

Rebecca deHaan said she would do it all over again if she had too

Rebecca deHaan wanted to surprise her husband with upgraded seats for the Detroit Lions-Los Angeles Rams game this past Sunday.

Figuring it was a pre-birthday surprise, she sprung them on him Friday.

“I called him, I told him I sent a picture of it,” said deHaan. “He’s like, ‘What is this,’ and I told him, ‘Our tickets,’ and we’re going!”

Three hours after delivering the good news, she started to feel horrible, debilitating pain in her abdomen. After a trip to the emergency room, she found out her appendix was ready to rupture.

She was heading into surgery and told her surgeon she had tickets to the game and had to make it.

“I was like, ‘I am going to this game, I have to go to this game even if I’m hooked up to an IV,’” deHaan said.

She made it. It took a wheelchair to get to their seats, but they made it with a great homemade sign which read:

“TAKEN OUT:

Saturday=my appendix

Sunday=the Rams.”

They stayed for the entire game, but she was so ready to go home and rest.

On Monday (Jan. 15), she’s really sore. Would she do it again?

“Yeah, I would,” deHaan laughed. “It was worth it.”
