Offer available from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions’ latest victory against the Los Angeles Rams didn’t just earn them a second home playoff game -- it also ensured free pizza for Metro Detroiters.

Detroit-style pizza staple Shield’s will be offering free pies to dine-in customers on Tuesday, Jan. 16, thanks to the Lions win on Jan. 14. The restaurant announced last week that it would give away free small and large pizzas if the Lions defeated the Rams -- and they did, 24-23, in the wild card round of the playoffs.

To celebrate, Shield’s locations in Detroit, Southfield and Troy will give away free pizzas from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Here’s how it’ll work:

  • Free pizzas will be available to dine-in guests only. No carryout and no delivery.
  • Groups of one or two customers will get one small pizza with one topping. Groups of three or more customers will get one large pizza with one topping.
  • Extra toppings will still be available for their usual price.
  • The offer is only available for guests who don’t have a reservation. Customers who booked reservations beforehand will not be eligible to participate.
  • Drinks are not included. Officials encourage customers to tip “based on the original cost of the pizza.”

“The fans have been waiting for a long time for a winning team and this could be the year the Lions go to the Super Bowl,” Paul Andoni from Shield’s said last week. “We’re glad to show our loyalty by giving away free pizza to celebrate their season and a home playoff victory. This could be the start of a new Detroit dynasty!”

The Detroit Lions are set to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field on Sunday, Jan. 21 in the second round of the playoffs. If the Lions win, they’ll face either the No. 1 49ers or the No. 7 Packers with a spot in the Super Bowl on the line.
