Woman responsible for hitting family of 3 head-on in Macomb County sentenced

Case repeatedly delayed for multiple reasons

Shanara Kortezarae Reed (Macomb County Prosecutor's Office)

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 33-year-old woman will spend at least nine years in prison for a drunk driving crash in Chesterfield Township.

Original story: Woman found guilty of hitting family of 3 head-on in Macomb County, lying to cops

The crash happened June 25, 2020. According to authorities, Shanara Reed struck a family’s vehicle head-on and proceeded to lie to police, alleging someone else was driving. She was later arrested and charged.

A jury found Reed guilty of all charges in December, including operating while intoxicated causing serious impairment, driving while license suspended causing serious impairment, moving violation causing serious impairment and lying to a police officer.

The prosecutor said the case was delayed repeatedly due to Reed changing legal representation and multiple evidentiary motions.

Reed was sentenced, Wednesday, Jan. 17, to 115-255 months in prison.

“Delaying a case does not deter our commitment to prosecuting and ensuring justice,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “The defendant has now been sentenced for her crimes, highlighting the accountability inherent in our legal system.”
