DETROIT – Cold weather busted pipes at the Rouge Woods and sent walls of water down the walls, through the lights, and even the smoke detectors on Detroit’s west side.
Everything was saturated with water, and you squash whenever you walk.
“The fire alarm had gone off in the building,” said Ebony Beauford. “I came out here, and you could hear it pouring down through the walls.”
Soon, it was pouring into apartments, the hallways, just everything. There was standing water in people’s apartments, enough that things floated.
The Detroit Fire Department got on the scene and shut the water off to the building, but the damage was done.
On-site managers offered bags but left when it was 5 p.m. Residents told Local 4 they’d gotten no help or response.
It’s impossible to stay there as the beds are soaked. We contacted the leasing agent Brightmoor Homes but have not received a callback.
