DETROIT – A man was fatally struck after leaving his vehicle after a crash along I-96 in Detroit early Saturday morning.
Michigan State Police said they were called to the scene of a one-car crash, with a vehicle on the shouler of I-96 near Outer Drive.

Troopers were dispatched and looking in the area for the initial crash when they found a male lying in the roadway of the Outer Drive ramp. Troopers administered first aid and the man, a 41-year-old from Detroit, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said their preliminary investigation found the man was part of the initial crash. He got out of his vehicle after the crash and started walking up the Outer Drive ramp.
It was later learned that the male found on the ramp was part of the initial crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver and the 41 year old male passenger from Detroit, got out of the vehicle after the crash.
The driver of a passenger car was driving up the ramp and struck the man. The driver stopped after striking the passenger. The victim has not been identified.
“We want to remind everyone to stay in your vehicle if involved in a crash or a break down on the freeway.” said F/Lt Mike Shaw. If you cant move off the freeway, stay in the vehicle with your seatbelt fastened and call 911. This is your safest option.”
