Officials say on Nov. 21, 2023, the 56-year-old was convicted by a Macomb County Jury of ethnic intimidation and two other charges after a three-day trial.

On Monday, July 25, 2022, Mangiapane was at his business in Warren when the victim walked by on the sidewalk.

Officials say Mangiapane yelled racial slurs and fired shots at the victim. The victim immediately called 911, and Warren police responded quickly to two separate locations, meeting the victim and going to the business where they encountered Mangiapane.

Mangiapane was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon (4-year felony), ethnic intimidation (2-year felony), and felony firearm (2-year mandatory felony).

“Today’s sentencing is a solemn reminder that our community rejects intolerance,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “We strive to build a society where every individual can live free from fear.”
