Canton Township police investigate deadly shooting

CANTON TWP., Mich. – Police in Canton Township are investigating a homicide that happened early Monday morning.

The victim was shot to death, according to Local 4 sources.

The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. in the area of Koppernick Road and I-275. Police had the area blocked off Monday morning.

Community members were on-edge Monday. Terry Mayne has lived in her home for 35 years. She was stunned to find out a body had been discovered early morning.

“Terrible thing. You don’t think like things like that can happen in your community, but it can,” Mayne said. “Just a real quiet community and it’s a great subdivision. Just a great subdivision where it looks out for each other.”

Officers spent the better part of the morning connecting the dots on what happened. The body was left near a car in the middle of the road. Police are remaining tight-lipped and not confirming how the person died and have only called it a death investigation.

It’s unknown if the person lived in the area.
