Pedestrian killed after being hit by semi truck, Mustang in Monroe County

Alcohol not believed to be factor in collision

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 33-year-old man from Newport was killed Monday, Jan. 29, after being hit by two different vehicles in Frenchtown Township.

The crash happened at about 2:20 near the intersection of Monroe Street and Santure Road. Authorities said Rory Tobin was walking along Monroe Street when he was struck by a southbound semi truck and then by a southbound Ford Mustang. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 68-year-old driver of the semi truck and the 19-year-old driver of the Mustang -- both residents of Monroe -- stayed at the scene. They were not injured.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 734-240-7557.
